The Farm gives students of all year levels the opportunity to interact with a variety of domestic farm animals and garden plants in a safe functional setting.
Student investigations may include:
- Exploring the variety of animals and plants in the farm environment and how they are housed and cared for
- Recognising and comparing the needs of farm animals and plants eg. food, water, protection
- Investigating and comparing the features of the animals and plants eg. feathers, beaks, feet, leaves, flowers and roots
- Recognising differences between farm animals as they live, grow and survive
- Identifying the different life cycle stages of farm animals and plants and how they have adapted to their environment
- Observing how the farm environment influences the reproduction, growth and survival of living things
Teachers and students may communicate observations through digital photography.
Duration: Approx. 1 to 2 hours
Comments:
The Farm is a well shaded facility within the DEEC grounds. The Farm encompasses the farm shed, poultry and pig run and vegetable gardens. The farm shed provides a large covered area housing our incubators, snake enclosure, compost stations and stock feed. Students may experience the farm during the Farm and/or Photography program.
