  • Locating, collecting and identifying aquatic insect life in the form of BMI’s (Benthic Macro Invertebrates) eg. Dragonfly and Mayfly nymphs
  • Identifying the stages of the life cycles of BMI’s
  • Developing an awareness and understanding of BMI’s as indicators of water quality

Teachers and students may communicate observations through digital photography.

Duration: 3-5 hours

Comments:
Polly Creek is a shady fresh water creek located in the hills approximately 4 km from the DEEC. Polly Creek is a series of shallow to medium depth pools joined by stretches of shallow water flowing over a rocky bottom. Students and adults will be involved in walking and wading through the shallow water and pools. This activity will see students getting wet so sun-smart swimwear and secure wet shoes are required. Swimming is possible under strictly supervised conditions.
The Polly Creek excursion may require a pre packed morning tea and lunch away from Daradgee.
