Our boat , the Daraji Sunbird (DS) gives students of all year levels the opportunity to safely explore the Johnstone River catchment from the upper North Johnstone River through to the inlet.
Student investigations may include:
- Observing and identifying the features and needs of aquatic river life
- Developing an awareness and understanding of what contributes to a healthy river system
- Identifying life cycle stages in various aquatic animals
- Exploring the physical features and adaptations of estuarine and aquatic river life
- Discussing the physical conditions of the environment and making predictions on impacts of growth and survival of estuarine and aquatic river life
Teachers and students may communicate observations through digital photography.
Duration: Approx. 2 to 3 hours

The DS is surveyed to seat 23 passengers including Daradgee crew. It is a stable, high sided vessel with full length canopy.
The DS is moored at the Daradgee Wharf and can operate at various locations along the Johnstone River. Boat trips vary from 1 hour to whole day excursions with most groups opting for 2 to 3 hours. Experiences may include observing aquatic and riparian habitats, plants and animals, recreational fishing and beach activities at The Coconuts. This program is conducted in known crocodile habitats.
