- Working with others in climber/spotter teams to learn bouldering manoeuvres and techniques
- Learning from experiences of unfamiliar physical challenges eg. using climbing holds, providing advice, being a safe spotter
- Improving participation and enjoyment through bouldering eg. learning new physical skills, encouraging others and being persistent and fair
- Debriefing on student’s experiences including benefits of working together to help others succeed, supporting others
Duration: Approx. 30 to 60 minutes
Comments:
Bouldering is conducted in our 9 x 15m ICW shed. This is fully shaded and well ventilated, providing a safe all weather option for approximately 30 students. Bouldering is low level climbing to 2.4m. It involves students working in pairs, taking turns to climb and to support the climber as a ‘spotter’.
Bouldering usually precedes the Top Rope Climbing (TRC) assisting students with an introduction to fundamental manoeuvres and climbing terms.
Debriefing the session is important preparation for TRC eg. identifying climbing manoeuvres and techniques, understanding the features of climbing holds and how spotters support and advise their climbers.
The ICW shed has sand as soft fall material.
